The Seattle Seahawks are in an interesting position heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, having already addressed their quarterback situation with Pro Bowl passer Sam Darnold. Darnold had a standout 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, posting career-high numbers with 4,319 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 66.2% of his passes.
With Geno Smith traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, Darnold steps in as the new starter, but his future with the Seahawks remains uncertain. He signed a three-year, $100.5 million deal, but Seattle has the option to move on after just one season.
As attention shifts to this year’s draft, NFL.com’s Chad Reuter projects the Seahawks will add a quarterback to the mix in the second round. This could create competition for Darnold’s starting role. In this scenario, Seattle selects Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka at No. 18 overall, followed by Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers at No. 35.
Ewers, standing 6-foot-2 and 214 pounds, led Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances. In 2024, he threw for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 65.8% of his passes. The former five-star recruit, who started at Ohio State before transferring, racked up 9,128 career passing yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions, along with eight rushing touchdowns.
Having beaten out five-star recruit Arch Manning for the starting job at Texas, Ewers is no stranger to competition. While Darnold would still have the upper hand in Seattle, the possibility of adding Ewers on a rookie deal is an intriguing move for the Seahawks.
