April 7, 2025

Edwin Arroyo, the highly regarded shortstop acquired by the Cincinnati Reds in a significant 2022 trade with the Seattle Mariners, made his much-anticipated return to action on Friday night with Double-A Chattanooga. After missing all of 2024 due to a torn left labrum, Arroyo impressed in his first Minor League game since 2023.

The 21-year-old posted a strong performance, collecting three hits in his first game back, reminding everyone why he’s considered one of the top prospects in baseball. According to MiLB’s social media, Arroyo’s return after 561 days without a game was marked by his solid showing on the field.

Ranked as the No. 90 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, Arroyo has a career .269 batting average in the minors, including a .252 mark in 2023. Despite only playing four games at Double-A in 2023, Arroyo is eager to continue his development, with hopes of making a Major League call-up later this season. MLB.com projects his big league debut for 2026.

Arroyo, who originally came up with the Mariners, was part of the trade that sent Luis Castillo to Seattle. Once he reaches the majors, he’ll join an exciting and competitive Reds infield that includes stars like Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, and others. As the Reds take on the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, Arroyo and the Lookouts will face off against the Rocket City Trash Pandas at 7:35 p.m. ET.
