Albert Breer Discusses Cleveland Browns’ QB1 for 2025
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers continue reshaping their roster during the NFL’s legal tampering period and the opening of free agency. As the new league year begins, contract signings are being announced, with the latest addition strengthening their secondary and special teams unit—a former New York Jets cornerback.
The Steelers have signed CB Brandin Echols, according to Fox Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The 27-year-old defensive back, who spent his entire NFL career with the Jets, is now set to join Pittsburgh.
A sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Kentucky, Echols brings speed and playmaking ability as an outside corner. Standing 5’10” and 180 pounds, he has demonstrated a knack for interceptions and pass deflections.
Last season, Echols appeared in 16 games for the Jets, recording 40 total tackles (29 solo, 11 assisted) and a fumble recovery. One standout stat likely caught the Steelers’ attention—his ability to create turnovers. In 407 defensive snaps (35% of the Jets’ defensive plays), he registered two interceptions and three pass deflections.
Throughout his four-year career, Echols has consistently contributed in coverage, totaling five interceptions and 16 passes deflected across 57 games.
His exact role in Pittsburgh remains to be seen. While primarily an outside corner in 2024, he has also played in the slot and contributed on special teams. With the Steelers reportedly acquiring Darius Slay, it’s uncertain if Echols is meant to provide depth or compete for the CB2 spot. What is clear, however, is that Pittsburgh is making a strong push to upgrade its secondary heading into the 2025 season.Red Wings Sudden Playoff Chances
