FRISCO, Texas — With Osa Odighizuwa locked in for the long term, the Dallas Cowboys have begun making additional roster moves. Now that the 2025 salary cap situation is clearer and the team faces decisions on 22 unrestricted free agents, they’ve also secured C.J. Goodwin on a new deal.
The veteran defensive back and special teams standout has agreed to a one-year contract for the 2025 season.
Goodwin, who joined the Cowboys in 2018, is set to enter his eighth season with the team. Recognized as one of the NFL’s top special teams players, his choice to stay in Dallas means he won’t be following former special teams coordinator John “Bones” Fassel and assistant Rayna Stewart, who both joined the Tennessee Titans this offseason.
Although an injury sidelined him for most of the 2023 season, Goodwin returned to full action in 2024. Since 2019, he has played in 88 games for the Cowboys, solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable players.
His leadership and skill set will be a valuable asset for newly appointed special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen.
