Tread Athletics recently hosted their 2025 Pro Day, showcasing several pitchers looking to secure spots in major league systems. After bringing Tyler Zombro on board a few months ago, the Cubs now have a direct connection to Tread’s pitching development expertise. This likely played a role in their recent moves, including signing Ben Heller to a minor-league deal and trading for Matt Festa. It didn’t take long for them to add another Tread graduate, as the Cubs announced today that they’ve signed right-handed pitcher Jordan Goldmann.
Goldmann, a Le Moyne College alum and undrafted free agent, had modest college statistics, posting a 6.48 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 38 walks over 73.2 innings. However, his velocity has made a dramatic improvement since his college days, jumping from around 85-87 mph to 94-95 mph. In addition to his increased speed, Goldmann boasts a solid pitch arsenal, including a sinker, slider, and changeup, along with impressive horizontal movement on his pitches.
While Goldmann isn’t expected to be a top prospect, his potential to rise through the ranks is high, especially with the Cubs’ focus on pitching development. The Cubs have made significant strides in this area, and with Zombro’s expertise, any player coming from Tread holds promise. If Goldmann was able to add nearly 10 mph to his velocity in just a few months, his continued growth within the Cubs’ system could lead to even greater improvements.
