“Seahawks Make Strategic Roster Move, Elevating Versatile Rookie to Active Duty as They Prepare for Postseason Push”

January 3, 2025

The Seattle Seahawks have made what could be their final regular-season roster move of 2024.

According to the NFL transaction wire, undrafted rookie John Rhys Plumlee has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. Meanwhile, tight end Brady Russell, who has been sidelined for several games due to a foot injury, has been placed on injured reserve.

What’s interesting about Plumlee’s situation is that although he was signed to the practice squad before the first game against the Arizona Cardinals, he was initially listed as a quarterback. However, aside from mimicking Kyler Murray in practice, Plumlee has been working with the Seahawks as a wide receiver and is now officially listed as one.

Plumlee, who had a pre-draft visit with the Seahawks, started his college football career at Ole Miss before transferring to the University of Central Florida for his final two seasons. Known for his impressive mobility, he rushed for over 2,500 yards on 453 attempts. Plumlee also has experience as a wide receiver, with 19 receptions for 201 yards during his junior year at Ole Miss.

During his brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Plumlee was utilized as a quarterback, receiver, and kick returner throughout training camp and the preseason.

He’s certainly a name to watch as the team looks ahead to next season!
