The Philadelphia Eagles have claimed defensive end Charles Harris off waivers, as reported by Zach Berman. Harris was waived by the Carolina Panthers yesterday to make room for cornerback Akayleb Evans, who was claimed from the Minnesota Vikings.
At 29 years old, Harris, a former first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Missouri, had been tied for the Panthers’ lead in sacks this season. Carolina has made numerous roster changes, particularly on defense, which likely contributed to Harris’ release.
Harris was in the final year of his four-year, $10.8 million rookie contract with the Dolphins when he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons declined his fifth-year option, and he earned a base salary of $1.94 million in 2020. He then signed a one-year “prove-it” deal with the Detroit Lions for the 2021 season.
Detroit re-signed Harris to a two-year, $14 million contract in March 2022, but he became a free agent this past offseason and eventually joined the Panthers. In 2024, Harris has appeared in nine games for Carolina, recording 21 tackles and three sacks.
