Seattle Seahawks cornerback Coby Bryant made the biggest play of his young NFL career on Sunday when he intercepted a pass from Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown. This pivotal play helped secure a 16-6 win, propelling the Seahawks into first place in the NFC West.
However, Bryant’s celebratory actions may cost him financially. The third-year cornerback paid tribute to Marshawn Lynch’s famous “hold my…” touchdown celebration, a gesture that is widely recognized (though the full phrase won’t be repeated here, as we aim to keep things family-friendly).
It’s easy to understand Bryant’s excitement—scoring a touchdown in the NFL is a rare feat, and when playing for the Seahawks at Lumen Field, it’s almost a requirement to perform the team’s most iconic celebration after such a play.
Still, Bryant might have learned a lesson from Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams, who faced a fine for using the same celebration after a touchdown the previous week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The NFL fined Williams $19,697 for “Unsportsmanlike Conduct (obscene gestures).”
Surprisingly, neither Bryant nor Williams has been fined for the gesture so far. However, Bryant acknowledges that a fine is likely on its way. “I don’t think I’ve ever run that fast,” he joked after the game. “I know I’m going to get fined, so hopefully Marshawn saw it.”
Perhaps Lynch will step in and cover the fine for Bryant, but regardless, the impromptu celebration is one Bryant will always remember—and it may hold even greater value if the Seahawks go on to win the NFC West.
