The Seahawks have activated safety Rayshawn Jenkins from injured reserve ahead of their upcoming game against the Cardinals, a decision that Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald had anticipated. In addition, the team has promoted tight end Tyler Mabry and linebacker Patrick O’Connell from the practice squad for Sunday’s matchup.
Jenkins, who started in the first six games of the season, has missed the last four due to a hand injury. With Coby Bryant excelling as a starter in Jenkins’ absence, his return creates what Macdonald referred to as “good problems” in the secondary.
“We’re adding some depth,” Macdonald commented earlier this week. “It’s good to have multiple talented players who can play different roles. You don’t want to overcomplicate things, though, as that could lead to confusion. The goal is to maintain continuity while smoothly reintegrating Rayshawn. We’re excited about it.”
Mabry, who was called up from the practice squad for the Seahawks’ Week 11 game against the 49ers, was waived and re-signed to the practice squad. O’Connell, who was elevated for last week’s game, will be playing in his third game of the season after also being promoted for Seattle’s Week 3 win over the Dolphins.
