The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation takes another unexpected turn. After losing Deshaun Watson to a season-ending Achilles injury, backup Dorian Thompson-Robinson is now dealing with a finger injury on his throwing hand.
In response, the Browns have signed Bailey Zappe from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, hoping to find some stability. Zappe expressed his enthusiasm about joining the team, saying, “I’m excited to be here… excited to be a part of this organization and help any way I can.”
When asked about joining a struggling team with a 1-6 record, Zappe highlighted the familiarity he has with Kevin Stefanski’s offense, likening it to his experience with the New England Patriots. “Having knowledge of what’s going on here was something I took into consideration,” he explained.
The 25-year-old quarterback brings experience from his time in the NFL, having thrown for 2,053 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions over 14 games since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
He is expected to serve as the backup in the upcoming Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Zappe’s journey has been eventful; he was cut by New England before landing on Kansas City’s practice squad, where he never made it to the active roster. Now, the Browns are counting on him to help end their five-game losing streak in the AFC North clash.
