Jake McCarthy delivered a two-out, two-run single along the left-field line in the ninth inning, propelling the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.

The Diamondbacks continued their strong play with their fifth consecutive win and their 17th in the last 20 games. This victory also marked their ninth straight series win.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo praised the team’s resilience, saying, “We let that team give us the chance and then, when it was the right time, we took advantage. It was a great win.”

The rally in the ninth inning began with a one-out triple from Corbin Carroll, who lined a ball into the right-field corner to reach third base. Victor Vodnik (3-3) managed to strike out Kevin Newman before Adrian Del Castillo and Geraldo Perdomo walked, loading the bases.

McCarthy, one of the league’s hottest hitters, then came through with a two-strike fastball, hitting a single down the third-base line past Ryan McMahon, who was positioned off the bag.

McCarthy reflected on the play, saying, “I was able to flick one to left. You’ll see that highlight, but Del Castillo, Perdomo, Corbin — that was awesome. If they go one, two, three, I don’t hit. That’s just a testament to our team, the no quit.”

The Rockies had a 3-0 lead by the third inning, with Jordan Beck’s RBI single in the second, Brenton Doyle’s run in the third, and Michael Toglia’s RBI double down the left-field line.

The Diamondbacks cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the third with Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s groundout driving in a run and Josh Bell adding an RBI double.

Colorado’s Austin Gomber pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, with one walk and four strikeouts. He was one of the few pitchers who had managed to slow down the Diamondbacks’ potent lineup, which had averaged over seven runs per game in their previous 15 games.

Noah Davis and Tyler Kinley pitched scoreless innings of relief before Vodnik faced the tough ninth inning, resulting in his third blown save in 11 opportunities.
