Darnell Nurse found the back of the net twice in the third period, while Mattias Ekholm notched a goal and an assist for the Oilers, putting an end to their two-game losing streak by effectively neutralizing the struggling Penguins.
Calvin Pickard showcased an impressive performance in goal for Edmonton, making 41 saves. Despite briefly leaving the game towards the end of the second period due to a collision with Pittsburgh forward Bryan Rust, Pickard returned at the start of the third period and went on to achieve his second shutout of the season.
Meanwhile, Tristan Jarry stood firm in goal for Pittsburgh, stopping 38 shots. However, the Penguins’ recent struggles continued as they suffered their sixth loss in seven games, experiencing back-to-back shutouts at home for the first time since 2004.
