LSU is bringing back one of its own as former team captain Mike Jones Jr. is returning to Baton Rouge as a football analyst. The announcement comes from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who highlights that Jones captained the team in 2022. Prior to his time at LSU, Jones played for Clemson.
Jones transferred to LSU in the summer of 2021 after spending time at Clemson. He was named permanent team captain before the 2022 season and played in 27 games over two years with the Tigers, starting 9. Over that time, he tallied 55 tackles, 3 tackles-for-loss, and showcased his versatility by playing all three linebacker positions as well as nickel back.
At Clemson, Jones appeared in 29 games, starting 7, and registered 47 tackles, 8 tackles-for-loss, a half sack, and 2 interceptions.
Originally from Nashville, Jones has made his way around the South and will now join LSU’s staff under Brian Kelly for the 2025 season, stepping into a coaching role at the university where he recently played.
