Seahawks sign NFL draft add depth at tight end

March 27, 2025

The Seahawks bolstered their tight end group on Monday by signing 8-year veteran Eric Saubert, who played a backup role with the San Francisco 49ers last season.

Saubert, who will turn 31 in May, has 47 receptions for 389 yards across 101 career NFL games, with a focus on blocking. In 2024, he recorded 11 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown for the 49ers. Of his 377 snaps last season, 275 were as an in-line tight end, with 215 of those plays dedicated to blocking, according to Pro Football Focus.

A consistent presence on special teams throughout his career, Saubert also played 302 special teams snaps with San Francisco last year. Additionally, he’s familiar with the Seahawks’ new offensive system, having played for Denver in 2022 under current offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.

With Saubert’s addition, the Seahawks now have four tight ends on their roster, including Noah Fant, AJ Barner, and Brady Russell. Fant and Barner are expected to be the primary pass-catching tight ends, while Saubert and Russell will likely compete for the blocking tight end role and special teams duties.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 248 pounds, Saubert entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 from Drake University.

In other news, free agent guard Dillon Radunz, who visited the Seahawks last week, signed with the New Orleans Saints on Monday. Radunz, who spent the past four seasons with the Tennessee Titans, is one of three veteran guards who recently visited Seattle, with the others—Teven Jenkins and Lucas Patrick—also signing with other teams (the Browns and Bengals, respectively).
