“Notre Dame Targets Raw 2026 Texas Defender with Unique Background and Big Potential”

March 27, 2025

On Tuesday, Notre Dame football made an interesting move by offering a scholarship to Jordan Davis, a defender from 2026 Plano (Texas) Dallas HSAA. Davis, a safety by position and an underrated prospect in the 2026 class, was offered by the Fighting Irish to play as a Rover in their 4-2-5 defense system.

Davis is currently ranked as a three-star player by 247Sports, where he’s listed as the No. 40 safety and No. 65 player in Texas for the 2026 recruiting class. His 247Sports Composite ranking is slightly lower, at No. 627 overall, No. 53 safety, and No. 84 in the state.

Despite these modest rankings, Davis is attracting attention from some notable programs. His top offers so far include Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor, Washington State, and Vanderbilt, with the list expected to grow quickly.

As a junior, Davis had an outstanding season, recording 69 total tackles, six interceptions, seven pass breakups, seven tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two quarterback hurries—all in just nine games. The 6-2, 195-pound athlete has proven to be a dynamic force on the field.

Davis was also a significant offensive threat, recording 50 receptions for 714 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s one of those players who excels at nearly every role he’s given.

Notre Dame should take their time with Davis. While his talent is undeniable, it would be wise to watch how his game evolves. As a homeschooled athlete, Davis competes against a lower level of competition in Texas, which adds complexity to his evaluation. The Irish coaching staff is considering multiple Rover options for the 2026 class, and Davis is certainly one to keep an eye on, especially if he makes a strong leap during his senior year.
