Vikings QB Provides Key Update on His Injured Meniscus

March 26, 2025

Minnesota Vikings second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee last preseason.

With the offseason workouts approaching, McCarthy sounded optimistic when discussing the condition of his knee during an interview with Kay Adams.

“I’d say I’m 100%,” McCarthy shared on Tuesday morning. “I’ve just been consistent with the rehab, sticking to the process, and keeping disciplined, avoiding distractions like chopping too much wood.”

While he’s obviously not thrilled about the injury, McCarthy called it a “blessing.”

“It was a huge blessing because it gave me a lot of time for stillness. It allowed me to reflect, introspect, and build a routine. Especially early in my career, finding that consistency is crucial, so that was a big takeaway for me.”

As of now, the Vikings seem to be positioning McCarthy to compete for the starting quarterback role. While there has been talk of veteran free agent Aaron Rodgers, he is not yet part of the team, and Sam Darnold, last season’s starter, has since joined the Seattle Seahawks.
