Top NFL insider Pro Bowl QB wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings

March 19, 2025

Kevin O’Connell has quickly built something special with the Minnesota Vikings. After guiding Sam Darnold to a career resurgence during a 14-win season, the reigning NFL Coach of the Year has cemented his reputation as a quarterback guru.

While last year’s first-round pick, J.J. McCarthy, is clearly Minnesota’s long-term plan at quarterback, the team’s current depth at the position is thin, with only Brett Rypien set to join the former Michigan standout next season.

However, a surprising name has been linked to the Vikings—one that’s impossible to ignore.

Aaron Rodgers to the Vikings? ESPN’s Adam Schefter Weighs In

Minnesota remains committed to developing McCarthy into its future starter. However, after missing the entire season due to knee surgery, there are concerns about how quickly the 22-year-old will be ready to take over.

The Vikings had hoped to retain Sam Darnold and were also interested in bringing back Daniel Jones, but both quarterbacks have moved on. Now, the team is searching for a veteran presence who can both mentor McCarthy and serve as a potential bridge starter if needed.

The most intriguing name emerging in Vikings rumors is four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. Following a disappointing two-year stint with the New York Jets, Rodgers remains unsigned and is reportedly being considered by the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Vikings as a potential starter.

Of those options, Minnesota might be the most appealing for Rodgers, as it offers the chance to compete while also helping groom a franchise quarterback for the future.

Adding fuel to the speculation, ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently stated on The Pat McAfee Show that Rodgers himself is interested in signing with the Vikings. Whether Minnesota seriously pursues the future Hall of Famer remains to be seen, but the possibility has certainly caught the league’s attention.
