Iowa State wide receiver Jayden Higgins is a name to watch for the Miami Dolphins. After a strong performance at Senior Bowl practices, the 6’4″ receiver stands out as a natural “X” on the outside, but he could also present a major challenge in the slot for opposing defenses.
Higgins shared his thoughts with The Draft Network, saying, “Even though I’m bigger than most receivers, I’m still quick and versatile. At 6’4, 215 pounds, I can play in the slot and contribute anywhere on the field. My versatility is one of my strengths and really benefits me.”
He added, “I can play wherever the team needs me. My goal is to help the offense succeed.”
Higgins had a stellar 2024 season, one of the best in Iowa State’s history, finishing with 87 catches, 1,183 yards, and nine touchdowns, earning Third Team All-American honors.
Position: WR
Projected Round: 3rd
Height: 6’4
Weight: 215
Fit for Miami
With his large frame and basketball background, Higgins is excellent at positioning himself as a target, particularly in the red zone. The Miami native would be a great fit for a Dolphins receiving corps that could benefit from adding more size.
With several free agents at wide receiver and uncertainty around Tyreek Hill’s future with the team, adding a player like Higgins to pair with Jaylen Waddle makes sense. Even if Hill stays in Miami, Waddle and 2024 rookie Malik Washington are the only receivers under contract for 2025. Given the team’s cap situation and the expensive free-agent market, adding a receiver like Higgins in the draft is a smart choice.
Bottom Line
The Dolphins could use additional red-zone threats beyond tight end Jonnu Smith and running back De’Von Achane’s scoring ability. Whether Hill stays or goes, Higgins would be a valuable investment, even if he requires some development and limited usage as a rookie.
