Steelers showing early interest to land Missouri quarterback

January 27, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to have a veteran starting quarterback in 2025, whether it’s Russell Wilson or another player they bring in. However, the team should be looking to secure a long-term solution at the position.

The 2025 NFL Draft offers the best opportunity, with the Steelers holding the No. 21 overall pick and additional selections in the second, third, fourth, and sixth rounds, including two picks in both the third and sixth rounds.

Unfortunately, the 2025 quarterback class is considered weak, making it a tough year to need a quarterback. Still, the Steelers could potentially find a hidden gem.

One quarterback they could consider late in Day 3 is Brady Cook from Missouri. Cook recently shared that he has already met with the Steelers twice, as reported by Josh Carney of Steelers Depot.

“I’ve met with the Steelers twice,” Cook said. “I really enjoy talking to them. I’ve also met with the Panthers and the Seahawks, and those conversations stood out. It’s still early, and we’re just getting to know each other, talking football, and sharing what I’m about. It’s going to be fun—it’s a process.”

Carney notes that these meetings with the Steelers took place during the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl and the Hula Bowl.

During his college career, Cook completed 65.9% of his passes for 9,251 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,262 yards and 21 touchdowns, showcasing his mobility.

Cook’s standout season came in 2023 when he passed for 3,317 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions, with a completion rate of 66.1%, his best as a starter.

However, Cook’s performance dipped in 2024, with a completion rate of 62.6%, 2,535 passing yards, and 11 touchdowns, which likely impacted his draft stock.
