Seahawks Make Bold Move with Big-Name Staff Hire

January 27, 2025

The Seattle Seahawks have hired former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, according to a source confirmed to FOX 13 Seattle.

The news was first reported by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Kubiak, 37, was one of six candidates linked to the position after the Seahawks decided to part ways with Ryan Grubb, who spent just one season in the role. Other reported candidates included Detroit Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley, Chicago Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown, Minnesota Vikings assistant Grant Udinski, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich.

Kubiak, the son of former Denver Broncos and Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, spent the 2023 season as the Saints’ offensive coordinator. His job status became uncertain after New Orleans fired head coach Dennis Allen midseason.

Kubiak’s coaching career began in the NFL in 2013, with a brief year at the University of Kansas in 2015. He started as an offensive quality control coach with the Minnesota Vikings (2013-14), joined his father’s Broncos staff in 2016, and stayed with the team for two more seasons after his dad’s retirement. Kubiak returned to the Vikings as a quarterbacks coach for two years before becoming the offensive coordinator in 2021. Afterward, he spent a season as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Denver in 2022 and another year in the same role with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 before joining the Saints.

Kubiak, Fraley, and Udinski all reportedly had second interviews with the Seahawks. Fraley, however, was promoted by the Lions to running game coordinator to remain in Detroit.

Under Kubiak’s leadership, the Saints finished 21st in total offense, 23rd in passing, and 14th in rushing, averaging 19.9 points per game, tied for 24th in the league. However, they also dealt with injuries, including missing starting quarterback Derek Carr for seven games. All five of their wins came with Carr in the lineup.

During his time as offensive coordinator for the Vikings in 2021, Kubiak helped the team average 25.0 points per game (14th in the league) and rank 12th in total offense, 11th in passing, and 17th in rushing.
