Former Boston Bruins fan favorite Taylor Hall is set to become a pending unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, making him a potential trade target for multiple teams as the March deadline nears.
Hall spent two and a half seasons with the Bruins before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, along with Nick Foligno, after the 2023 season.
One challenge for teams like the Blackhawks in moving Hall is his $6 million cap hit, meaning they might need to retain part of his salary. This season, Hall has remained healthy after recovering from a knee injury that cut his 2022-23 campaign short and required surgery in November. Though he didn’t return to skating until the postseason, he’s started to rediscover his scoring touch in Chicago. With 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) in 30 games, Hall could provide valuable depth for a contending team.
Should the Bruins Explore Taylor Hall’s Availability?
The Bruins are a familiar destination for Taylor Hall and could benefit from adding the goal-scoring forward to their roster. During his time in Boston, Hall was productive, recording 111 points (44 goals, 67 assists) in 158 games.
General Manager Don Sweeney traded Hall and Nick Foligno to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula. Regula is now part of the Edmonton Oilers’ system, while Mitchell currently plays for the Providence Bruins.
For the Bruins to re-acquire Hall, Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson would likely need to retain some of Hall’s salary, as Boston only has $550K in cap space heading into the trade deadline. That means the Bruins may need to make room for Hall, potentially involving a third team to facilitate the deal. However, Hall has expressed a desire to remain in Chicago and see the team’s rebuild through, though it’s uncertain whether that sentiment will hold long-term.
