Former Reds General Manager Jim Bowden believes the team should target veteran Joc Pederson in free agency. According to Bowden, the Reds’ lineup could benefit from more power, and Pederson would be a great fit for their roster. The 32-year-old, who can occasionally play in the outfield corners and serve as the designated hitter, posted a strong .275/.393/.515 batting line last season with 23 home runs in 367 at-bats, earning a 151 OPS+ and a 2.9 WAR. While Pederson primarily faces right-handed pitchers, his bat is a valuable weapon, and his extensive postseason experience would be a valuable asset for a young Reds team still finding its way. A two-time All-Star and World Series Champion, Pederson would add power to the lineup, even if he’s mainly a DH at this point in his career. Bowden anticipates a two-year, $26 million contract for Pederson.
