Thanksgiving Day saw a flurry of internet rumors regarding Juan Soto’s free agency, with some unverified reports claiming that he had already signed with the Boston Red Sox. ESPN’s top baseball reporter, Jeff Passan, was quick to shut down these speculations. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to clear the air, stating that Soto had not yet signed anycontract with the Boston Red Sox“I am thankful for reporters who don’t make up stories,” Passan wrote, adding that Soto hadn’t agreed to any deals, urging fans to enjoy their holiday instead of getting caught up in baseless rumors.

However, one online source with a solid track record offered a more measured take on the situation. MLB insider Mike Rodriguez, known for his credibility, posted a report based on information he received from his sources in Boston. According to Rodriguez, Soto had spoken for over an hour with Red Sox star Rafael Devers about joining the team. He also revealed details of the Red Sox’s contract offer, which reportedly includes 12 years at approximately $50 million per season, totaling around $600 million. Rodriguez noted that Soto seemed intrigued by the possibility of playing for the Red Sox, making them a strong contender in the race for his services.

In response, Hector Gomez, another MLB insider, posted a slightly different report, claiming that the Red Sox’s offer was for 13 years at $625 million. This would slightly lower Soto’s annual salary to around $48 million. As of Thanksgiving evening, there was no independent confirmation of either report, and Soto’s future remains uncertain, with both the Red Sox and other teams still in the mix.
