“Mets Make Bold Move: Snatching Yankees’ $14 Million All-Star in a Stunning Cross-Town Power Grab!”

October 29, 2024

The New York Mets are set to make significant acquisitions this winter.

Reports have indicated that the Mets have been a topic of discussion for months. With the highest payroll in baseball, their financial flexibility will create opportunities this offseason, fueling speculation about potential targets since last year.

New York is likely to attract top talent this winter. The Mets are expected to pursue stars like Juan Soto and possibly Corbin Burnes, among other options. They have some roster gaps to fill, and Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller mentioned New York Yankees All-Star Gleyber Torres as a potential fit.

Miller suggested, “The Mets could consider signing Gleyber Torres to a lucrative contract to play second base, allowing Jeff McNeil to transition to a corner outfield spot. However, a $100 million deal for Torres might be ambitious. Overall, the Mets will be very active, and they won’t be viewed as underdogs in 2025.”

Torres had a rocky start to the 2024 season but has performed well in recent months. He will enter free agency after earning $14 million this year. His value is hard to predict given his youth—just 27 years old—with two All-Star selections and four seasons with over 24 home runs, but he has also shown inconsistency.

He’s poised to secure a significant contract this winter, and the Mets have the means to afford him. A middle infield pairing of Torres and Francisco Lindor could be exciting, making this a viable suggestion for New York as they look to strengthen their roster.
