The Seattle Seahawks have added nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters to their practice squad, as first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Peters’ agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, has since confirmed his signing with the team.
At 42 years old, Peters went undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004. This marks his 20th season in the NFL, following a year-long absence in 2012. The future Hall of Famer last played for the Seahawks in 2023, participating in eight games, including two starts. He spent the majority of his career with the Buffalo Bills (2004-2008) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2009-2020). After visiting the Seahawks last week, head coach Mike Macdonald had not suggested that a signing was on the horizon. While the team has yet to officially confirm the signing, the announcement from his agency strongly indicates that it is a done deal.
“It would be on the practice squad,” Macdonald mentioned on Wednesday. “Everyone who was here last year had a great experience with him, so we’ll see what happens in the next week or so.”
Primarily a left tackle throughout most of his career, Peters has also played guard, most recently in the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and Seahawks, according to Pro Football Focus. Given Seattle’s struggles at the guard positions, it’s likely that the team intends to utilize him in that role.
If Peters can provide even a temporary boost over right guard Anthony Bradford or left guard Laken Tomlinson, it would be a positive development for Seattle. Stone Forsythe has shown continued improvement at right tackle, making it unlikely that Peters will be assigned to that position.
While Peters may not see immediate playing time if Seattle is satisfied with its offensive linemen’s performance during the 42-29 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday night, he serves as a valuable backup plan if needed.
