Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes are not tolerating the recent negativity aimed at tight end Travis Kelce. Despite a slower start to the season, with only eight receptions for 69 yards and no touchdowns in three games, Reid and Mahomes have quickly shut down any criticisms suggesting Kelce is distracted or past his prime.
Reid firmly dismissed the criticism, saying, “I know people are saying he’s old or distracted, but defenses don’t think that. Trav is fine. He works his tail off and hasn’t lost a step. (Defenses) are just making sure he’s well-covered.”
Reid highlighted how talented tight ends, like Kelce, can challenge opposing defenses, and the attention he commands is a testament to his influence on the field.
Mahomes echoed Reid’s sentiments, emphasizing Kelce’s selfless approach. “He wants to make an impact, but he wants to win first. If we’re winning, he’s happy, even if it means blocking or doing whatever it takes to help the team,” Mahomes said.
Kelce addressed the situation on his podcast, *New Heights*, brushing off the noise. “I’m not caught up in targets or stats. I just want a successful offense, and I think Pat’s doing a great job of finding the open guy. It’s about winning games and cleaning up mistakes along the way.”
His message to critics? “As long as we’re winning, we’re good to go. We’re 3-0, and you can’t beat that start.”
Kelce remains focused on the team’s success, demonstrating his continued dedication to the game.
