Ahead of their Week 2 game against the New England Patriots on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks promoted rookie running back George Holani and second-year tackle McClendon Curtis from the practice squad.
The Seattle Seahawks are bolstering their roster with added depth due to recent injury concerns. Starting running back Kenneth Walker III and starting right tackle George Fant have both been listed as doubtful for the upcoming game against the New England Patriots. Walker sustained an oblique injury, while Fant is dealing with a knee issue, both injuries having occurred during Seattle’s season-opening victory over the Denver Broncos last Sunday.
To address these gaps, the Seahawks have promoted rookie running back George Holani and second-year tackle McClendon Curtis from the practice squad. Holani, an undrafted rookie from Boise State, showcased his abilities during the preseason, where he competed with second-year player Kenny McIntosh for the No. 3 running back spot. In Seattle’s three preseason games, Holani demonstrated his potential by rushing for 66 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 15 carries. He also contributed with three receptions for 15 yards and made two tackles on special teams. Although he was waived during the final roster cuts, he was subsequently signed to the practice squad.
Curtis, who went undrafted in 2023 from FCS-level Chattanooga, joined the Seahawks last year. He spent a significant portion of the season on their active roster and participated in two games, primarily contributing to the field-goal unit. Curtis competed for a roster spot during this year’s training camp and preseason but was waived before signing to the practice squad.
Walker, who exited the game against the Broncos in the fourth quarter, had already made a notable impact with 103 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Fant, a veteran in his ninth year, suffered his injury late in the first quarter. He was starting in place of Abraham Lucas, who remains on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from January knee surgery. With Fant sidelined, third-string tackle Stone Forsythe, who made eight starts last season due to injuries, stepped in to fill the void.
