The Atlanta Braves were certainly active this summer.
Entering the 2024 season with lofty expectations, the Braves were coming off a stellar regular season last year, but their success didn’t carry over into the playoffs, where they were eliminated earlier than anticipated. Determined to rebound this season, the Braves faced significant challenges due to a slew of injuries.
Despite these setbacks, the Braves remained busy ahead of the trade deadline, making several key moves. One of these moves, the reacquisition of outfielder Jorge Soler from the San Francisco Giants, has been particularly praised. MLB.com’s Brian Murphy ranked this trade as the fourth-best deal of the deadline.
“Jorge Soler, Braves,” Murphy noted. “The Braves, like every good horror movie villain, just keep coming at you no matter how much damage they sustain. Already without reigning National League MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. and second baseman Ozzie Albies, Atlanta lost slugger Austin Riley to a fractured right hand on August 18. And yet, the Braves have won 12 of their past 17 games and hold a three-game lead for the final National League Wild Card.”
Currently holding a National League Wild Card spot, the Braves would make the playoffs if the season ended today. While their chances of winning the World Series have diminished due to injuries, they remain a threat, and the reunion with Soler could provide a crucial boost.
