The Detroit Lions have chosen eight players to be captains for the 2024 season.
As the regular season approaches its kickoff on Sunday, the Lions have revealed their six captains: Jared Goff, Penei Sewell, Alex Anzalone, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, and Aidan Hutchinson.
Teams are allowed up to eight captains under current league rules, a reduction from the previous limit of ten which was adjusted before the 2023 season.
Last year’s captains for the Lions included Goff, Anzalone, Sewell, Reeves-Maybin, St. Brown, and defensive end Charles Harris.
While teams can name up to eight captains, only six can participate in the pregame coin toss.
This offseason, Goff, Sewell, and St. Brown all received substantial contract extensions, highlighting their impressive performances since joining Detroit in 2021. Sewell and St. Brown were named First-team All-Pro last season, marking them as leading players in their positions.
Goff also had an outstanding 2023 season, finishing among the top five in passing yards and touchdowns and guiding his team to two playoff wins.
Reeves-Maybin was recognized as an NFLPA All-Pro for his exceptional special teams play and earned Pro Bowl honors for his contributions.
Hutchinson, now in his third year with the Lions after his college career at Michigan, is a new addition to the captaincy group.
