New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett sustained a shoulder injury during the team’s 20-10 loss to the Washington Commanders in their final preseason game. The injury, which affected his throwing shoulder, occurred after Brissett was sacked by Washington’s KJ Henry. Although Brissett continued to play for two more snaps before being pulled, head coach Jerod Mayo mentioned that Brissett could have played longer if necessary.

The Patriots have yet to announce their starting quarterback for the upcoming NFL season, which begins in early September. Rookie Drake Maye, who was the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft, filled in for Brissett and delivered an impressive performance, completing 13 of 20 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, along with a notable 17-yard run.
Maye’s strong showing has added to the ongoing competition for the starting quarterback position, with Brissett, Joe Milton III, and Bailey Zappe all in the mix. Reflecting on his readiness, Maye expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the team’s success in their Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
