The Seattle Seahawks’ trade of Darrell Taylor, without acquiring a player in return, left an open spot on their 90-man roster, which they quickly filled.
UDFA rookie cornerback Willie Roberts, who was waived earlier this week following the Seahawks’ signings of tight ends Michael Ezeike and Devin Garrison, has been re-signed by the team.
This move comes as the Seahawks deal with the trade of Mike Jackson Sr. and Tre Brown’s undisclosed injury, which has sidelined him for the past few practices. Although Brown is expected to return next week, adding cornerback depth for the final preseason game seems necessary.
Roberts, a former standout at Louisiana Tech, recorded five interceptions over two seasons with the Bulldogs and was a semifinalist for the 2023 Jim Thorpe Award, recognizing the top defensive back in college football. After going undrafted, he earned a tryout with the Seahawks during minicamp. While he wasn’t signed immediately, the team brought him on three weeks ago just before preseason began.
Even if it’s just for one more weekend, welcome back, Willie!
