The Arizona Cardinals will begin the 2024 NFL season without Zay Jones, one of their recent wide receiver acquisitions. The NFL has handed down a five-game suspension to Jones due to a breach of the league’s personal conduct policy. This penalty stems from a domestic abuse allegation dating back to November 2023, when Jones was arrested for allegedly assaulting the mother of his child.

Although the NFL’s investigation did not result in charges being filed earlier this year, the league has still imposed disciplinary measures. Jones, a veteran with eight years in the NFL, played two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Cardinals this summer. In 2023, he appeared in nine games for the Jaguars, recording 34 catches for 321 yards and two touchdowns. Despite being expected to provide depth behind receiver Michael Wilson and 2024 first-round draft pick Marvin Harrison Jr., Jones’s absence casts uncertainty over the Cardinals’ wide receiver lineup as the season approaches.
The Cardinals’ season opener is set for September 8 against the Buffalo Bills. In addition to this game, Jones will also miss contests against the Rams, Lions, Commanders, and 49ers.
