Columbia (S.C.) Hammond School tight end Mike Tyler has committed to LSU and head coach Brian Kelly, as he announced on social media Saturday.
The South Carolina native visited Baton Rouge twice this summer, with Kelly and his staff intensifying their pursuit of the versatile tight end following a June visit.
After participating in LSU’s summer camp, the program was impressed with the 6-foot-4, 225-pound athlete and invited him to attend the Bayou Splash recruiting event in late July.
Tyler quickly caught the attention of the LSU coaching staff, who viewed the three-star prospect as a hidden gem in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
In the final stages of his recruitment, LSU outcompeted Duke to secure Tyler’s commitment. His standout junior season, during which he tallied 33 receptions for 543 yards and seven touchdowns, garnered him offers from multiple East Coast programs.
Tyler, who is skilled both as a receiver and blocker, currently holds offers from over 20 schools, including LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. Despite already securing a commitment from Louisiana’s top tight end, JD LaFleur, LSU made a strong push for Tyler to round out a two-tight end class in 2025.
Now, all eyes are on the Early Signing Period in December, where LSU hopes to solidify its impressive 2025 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 3 nationally. This class is headlined by top prospects like Bryce Underwood (No. 1 QB), Harlem Berry (No. 1 RB), and DJ Pickett (No. 1 CB). Tyler becomes the 23rd commitment in this cycle, as LSU looks to add even more talent in the near future.
