BALTIMORE (AP) — Just before Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Baltimore Orioles bolstered their starting rotation by acquiring left-hander Trevor Rogers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for infielder Connor Norby and outfielder Kyle Stowers.
Rogers, 26, had a 2-9 record with a 4.53 ERA this season for the Marlins. He will join a Baltimore rotation that recently added Zach Eflin from Tampa Bay.
Baltimore, holding a slim half-game lead in the AL East as of Tuesday, needed to address pitching depth due to injuries to Kyle Bradish, John Means, and Tyler Wells. Eflin is under contract through the 2025 season.
Despite a standout 2.64 ERA in 2021, Rogers has not posted an ERA under 4.00 since. As a left-hander, he could be a strong addition for Baltimore, given its deep left-field wall.
Norby and Stowers have some major league experience but faced limited playing time due to the Orioles’ depth in position players. Notably, Baltimore has retained its top prospects, including middle infielder Jackson Holliday, catcher Samuel Basallo, and corner infielder Coby Mayo, all ranked in the top 15 by MLB Pipeline.
Additionally, the Orioles announced the selection of utilityman Terrin Vavra’s contract from Triple-A Norfolk.
