New Duke basketball guard Sion James has consistently expanded his skill set each season in college. After four impressive seasons at Tulane, where he amassed over 1,084 points, 520 rebounds, 337 assists, and 187 steals, the 21-year-old is ready to showcase his latest enhancements with the Blue Devils. Barring any setbacks, James is poised to secure significant playing time from head coach Jon Scheyer, either as a starter or a key contributor off the bench, as he aims to meet the individual and team goals he outlined on this week’s episode of The Brotherhood Podcast.
“I really want to learn to dominate in the paint,” James told Duke sophomore guard Caleb Foster, the podcast’s current host. “I’ve been a pretty good finisher and playmaker down there, but I want to be one of the best in the country at finishing in the paint and making plays for my team, while also becoming a better shooter.”
Additionally, the Sugar Hill, Ga. native has set high defensive aspirations for himself. “I want to be the best defensive player on the team, in the conference, and in the country,” James added. “I believe I have the ability to achieve that, and I’ll work on it every day so that by championship time, we’re ready to go.”
