Javien Toviano was expected to be a key player in LSU Tigers’ revamped defense for 2024. However, Toviano might find himself on the sidelines or at another school after being arrested on charges of video voyeurism.
The true sophomore allegedly recorded himself having sex with a woman without her consent, according to an arrest warrant. The woman discovered the videos on Toviano’s iPad, which were recorded via a clock with a built-in camera placed near the bed, reported The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate.
As a true freshman, Toviano played in all 13 games and started three at cornerback for the Tigers. The 19-year-old was one of the top recruits in the 2024 class.
The woman told detectives that Toviano had previously recorded their sexual encounters without her consent and that she had explicitly told him she did not want to be recorded. Toviano admitted to using a hidden camera to record the encounters during an interview with detectives, according to the arrest warrant.
LSU coach Brian Kelly did not comment on the arrest, nor did Toviano or his legal representative. However, the program issued a statement on Sunday, stating that Toviano “has been suspended from all team activities, in accordance with departmental policies.”
LSU’s offense, led by Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, excelled in 2023, but the defense was historically poor. “We know that defensively, we need to reach a higher level of play,” Kelly told the SEC Network last Monday. “We played a lot of young guys on defense that we expect to take that next step this year.”
Toviano was one of those young players, but his involvement now seems doubtful.
