Just in: The Houston Texans Provide Positive Health Update on Four-Time Pro Bowl Star

July 18, 2024

The Houston Texans are optimistic that their offensive line can maintain better health in the 2024 campaign, following a challenging 2023 season marred by injuries. Last year, the Texans shuffled through three left tackles, four left guards, two centers, and two right tackles, highlighting the extent of their struggles to keep their linemen on the field.

At the heart of these challenges was the elite Pro Bowl left tackle, Laremy Tunsil, who endured a knee injury in Week 1 that sidelined him for the subsequent three weeks. Despite this setback, Tunsil displayed remarkable resilience by playing through the injury, even undergoing multiple knee drainings throughout the season. His determination was evident when he reinjured his knee during the Wild Card round, only to return and play every snap in the Divisional Round.

The offseason has been crucial for Tunsil’s recovery. Near the end of February, he underwent a successful arthroscopic knee surgery to address the lingering issues. Consequently, Tunsil missed offseason workouts, including OTAs and the mandatory minicamp, to focus on his rehabilitation.

As of yesterday, July 17, both rookies and veterans reported to training camp, and Tunsil was among them, marking a significant milestone in his recovery. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, Tunsil is fully healthy heading into training camp and is expected to ease into the start of camp activities, with a positive outlook for participation during the preseason.

“#Texans Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil fully healthy heading into training camp after offseason arthroscopic knee surgery cleanup procedure. While expected to ease into start of camp, should be good to go during this preseason after positive offseason of training @KPRC2,” Wilson reported.

The Texans do not plan to place Tunsil on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, signaling their confidence in his readiness. Tunsil’s return to training camp is crucial for several reasons: his health, his status as one of the league’s best left tackles, and the avoidance of relying on a less experienced player in his position. Most importantly, Tunsil is pivotal to the Texans’ aspirations of making a Super Bowl run.

The Texans hope that Tunsil, a four-time Pro Bowler, can remain healthy throughout the season, providing stability and excellence to their offensive line. With a fortified line, the team aims to protect their quarterback and establish a robust running game, both essential components for a successful season. The health of their offensive line, anchored by a fully recovered Tunsil, will be a key factor in the Texans’ quest for postseason success.
