The Florida Gators secured their first verbal commitment in July and their initial linebacker addition of the recruiting cycle with the commitment of four-star Myles Johnson from Brewton (AL) T.R. Miller. Johnson, who had been committed to in-state Alabama since October last year, reopened his recruitment recently. Florida had been persistent in pursuing Johnson even before he opened up his commitment, ultimately convincing him to join their 2025 recruiting class.
Co-defensive coordinators Ron Roberts and Austin Armstrong played pivotal roles in Florida’s recruitment efforts. Johnson highlighted similarities in defensive schemes discussed by Roberts and Armstrong compared to Alabama’s, emphasizing the educational opportunities at Florida as a significant factor in his decision-making process.
Despite his previous commitment, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Johnson noted Florida’s strong pursuit of him lately. He visited both Florida and Ole Miss officially in June and made an additional unofficial visit to Gainesville the same month. During his official visit, Johnson appreciated the Gators’ emphasis on his value and their commitment to his success as a student-athlete.
With Johnson’s commitment, Florida now boasts nine commitments in their 2025 recruiting class, joining a talented group including top prospects from various positions across the country. According to 247Sports, Johnson ranks as the No. 27 linebacker prospect and the No. 16 prospect overall in Alabama for the 2025 class.
