The Indianapolis Colts roster is mostly set with training camp just two weeks away, but it’s always wise to check the free-agent market.
The Colts’ primary concerns entering the season are in the secondary, particularly at the safety and cornerback positions, where there are depth and experience issues.
With significant salary-cap space, the Colts could still make a late addition. This flexibility is why Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut listed the Colts as potential suitors for five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Reuniting with Gilmore could be a smart move. The Colts are optimistic about second-year players JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones on the boundary, but depth remains a concern.
Jones showed potential during his rookie season, but not enough to prevent the Colts from adding more talent to the secondary.
In 2022, Gilmore proved to be an excellent fit in Gus Bradley’s defense. He requested a trade after the season due to the team’s perceived direction.
Now, with the Colts in a position to compete for a playoff spot, a short-term deal with Gilmore could make sense for both parties.
While it might be unlikely, reuniting with Gilmore could be a strong move for the Colts.
