The Arizona Cardinals signed former Colorado Buffaloes WR Xavier Weaver as an undrafted free agent this offseason.
Looking ahead, they might target another talent from Deion Sanders’ program. In ESPN’s Matt Miller’s early 2025 NFL Mock Draft, based on reverse Super Bowl odds, Arizona is projected to pick at No. 9 and select Colorado WR/DB Travis Hunter:
“Arizona is laying a strong foundation and might opt for a ‘best player available’ strategy next April. Hunter, a versatile star with 984 snaps last season—412 on offense and 572 on defense—showed his playmaking skills and elite coverage ability,” Miller noted. “With 57 receptions and five touchdowns in nine games, he was an early Heisman candidate and also recorded three interceptions and seven pass breakups on defense. While there will be a debate about his best position in the pros, Hunter is a versatile, all-around player the Cardinals could use in multiple roles.”
This offseason, the Cardinals bolstered their wide receiver group and added youth to a cornerback room that relied heavily on rookies in 2023.
Hunter, who was in Heisman contention before a lacerated liver sidelined him for several weeks last season, was recently named the top underclassman for next year by The Athletic:
“Hunter logged more regular-season snaps (631 on defense, 475 on offense) than any other Power 5 player last year, totaling over 1,000 snaps—the equivalent of a starting NFL defender’s load—while playing both positions as a true sophomore,” wrote Nick Baumgardner. “His 1,106 total snaps were the most of any Power 5 player in at least the past six seasons, achieved in just nine games in his first year at that level.”
If Hunter falls to them, the Cardinals would acquire a significant asset, capable of making an impact whether he plays cornerback or receiver.
