Just In: BLUE JAYS’ All STAR FIRST BASEMAN, NOW TRADE WITH YANKEES

June 26, 2024

Back in 2022, Toronto Blue Jays’ All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. declared that he would never play for the New York Yankees. However, in 2024, Guerrero appears to have reconsidered his stance. The Blue Jays have had a challenging first half of the 2024 MLB season, with a 35-43 record, placing them at the bottom of the AL East. Analysts predict they may be sellers before the trade deadline, with Guerrero as their most valuable trade asset. Conversely, the Yankees are experiencing a resurgence, leading the division with a 52-28 record but have recently lost first baseman Anthony Rizzo to injury for at least four weeks. Rumors suggest they are exploring several trade options at the position, including Guerrero.

When recently asked about a potential trade to the Yankees by Virus Deportivo, Guerrero did not dismiss the idea.

“Sometimes you say things. It’s not that I’m retracting my statement about the Yankees,” Guerrero explained. “But this is a business. After talking with my dad [Vladimir Guerrero Sr.] and my family, I’ve realized that this is a business. I’ve decided not to speak about it anymore, despite many inquiries.”

Guerrero also stated he would be “happy to help any team” that acquires him but remains committed to the Blue Jays. Toronto has been firm about not trading Guerrero, who remains under their control through next season. Despite this, there have been no significant extension talks between the two parties.

Guerrero is hitting .286 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 2024.
