Just In: Texas Basketball Hosts Star Forward Arthur Kaluma for Crucial Visit Amid Transfer Frenzy

June 24, 2024

In a significant development for Texas Longhorns basketball, former Kansas State Wildcats forward Arthur Kaluma is set to visit the program next week, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. This visit comes as Kaluma weighs his options in the transfer portal, having already visited the SMU Mustangs earlier this week.

Kaluma, a redshirt sophomore forward, brings a solid resume to the table. Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 220 pounds, the Boston native spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Creighton Blue Jays. During his time at Creighton, Kaluma established himself as a formidable presence on the court. He earned All-Big East Tournament and Big East All-Freshman Team honors in his debut season, showcasing his potential early on.

Over 68 games at Creighton, Kaluma posted impressive averages of 11.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. His consistency earned him 67 starts, making him a key player for the Blue Jays during his tenure.

Kaluma transferred to Kansas State for the 2023-24 season, where he continued to make an impact. In 33 games for the Wildcats, he averaged 14.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, starting in 32 of those contests. His performance solidified his reputation as a versatile forward capable of contributing across the board.

Kaluma entered the transfer portal on April 23, 2024, shortly after testing the waters in the NBA Draft. Although he eventually withdrew from the draft before the May 31 deadline, his decision to explore new opportunities in the transfer market indicates a desire to find the best fit for his remaining two years of eligibility.

He is currently ranked as the No. 13 transfer small forward in the 247Sports Composite, making him one of the top forwards available in the transfer portal this offseason. With the spring transfer portal window closing on May 1, Kaluma’s decision-making process is in its final stages.

For Texas and head coach Rodney Terry, securing a commitment from Kaluma would be a significant boost to their 2024-25 roster. The Longhorns have one remaining scholarship spot and are actively seeking an impact player to bolster their frontcourt depth. Adding a player of Kaluma’s caliber, with proven experience and versatility, aligns perfectly with their needs.

Texas has already made strides in shaping their roster for the upcoming season. They recently added former Vanderbilt Commodores center Jamie Vinson, a three-star commit, filling their 12th scholarship spot. Now, with Kaluma’s impending visit, the Longhorns have the opportunity to complete their roster with a high-impact forward.

Arthur Kaluma’s visit to Texas underscores the Longhorns’ commitment to strengthening their team with experienced and talented players. His versatility as a forward, combined with his scoring and rebounding abilities, makes him a valuable asset for any program.

As Kaluma evaluates his options, Texas stands out as a promising destination where he can continue to develop his skills and contribute significantly to a competitive team. His visit next week will be crucial in determining whether the Longhorns can secure his commitment and finalize their roster for the 2024-25 season.

The upcoming visit marks a pivotal moment for both Kaluma and Texas basketball, setting the stage for potential new dynamics in the college basketball landscape.
