Following his removal from Saturday’s game against [Opponent] due to knee soreness in the second inning, Starling Marte of the New York Mets is scheduled for testing on Monday, as confirmed by Carlos Mendoza in a post-game media briefing. The veteran outfielder has been grappling with lingering knee issues throughout the season, impacting his defensive agility.
“It’s too early to determine the extent,” Mendoza informed reporters. “We’ll assess his response tomorrow, followed by an off-day on Monday, and take it from there.”
Marte, 35, signed a pivotal four-year, $78 million contract with the Mets and has proven instrumental both offensively and defensively since his arrival in 2022. Over this period, Marte has maintained a .275 batting average with 28 home runs, 121 RBIs, and 152 runs scored. His recent performance in June has been particularly strong, batting .333 over his last 15 games with 11 RBIs and a home run.
With Marte’s availability uncertain for the near future, the Mets are expected to rely on a rotation featuring Tyrone Taylor and DJ Stewart in the outfield lineup. The team will await further updates following Monday’s evaluation to determine Marte’s timeline for return.
