After a breakout 2023 season and securing a $72.8 million contract extension, Nico Collins isn’t resting on his laurels.
The Houston Texans wide receiver is aiming high for 2024, setting his sights on reaching 1,500 yards.
“I’m pushing for 1,500 yards, at the least. That’s my target,” Collins told ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime. “I’m chasing after the greats I’ve admired for years—Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald—players who made the game look effortless.”
In 2023, Collins achieved 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, significantly boosting his career stats across the board. His recent contract extension with the Texans solidifies Collins as their future WR1, though his current role remains to be seen.
The Texans’ acquisition of Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills for a 2025 second-round pick adds competition. Diggs, motivated after a challenging second half last season, restructured his contract to become a free agent after 2024, likely increasing his target share.
Additionally, second-year wideout Tank Dell returns after a fractured fibula ended his promising rookie season prematurely in December.
With veteran running back Joe Mixon also joining the team, the Texans offense is brimming with talent and options. If Collins manages to surpass 1,500 yards amid this competitive lineup, he’ll stake a claim among the NFL’s elite receivers by next year.
