The Atlanta Falcons have experienced a significant offseason overhaul since their last NFL game, with a new head coach and quarterback at the helm. However, according to a recent revelation by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Falcons nearly considered hiring Josh McDaniels for a pivotal future role. Although Raheem Morris was ultimately chosen as the head coach to succeed Arthur Smith, McDaniels was in the running for a combined front office and coaching position for 2024.
Breer noted, “Interestingly, former Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels was being considered for a hybrid front office-coaching role if Belichick had joined the Falcons. Much like Houston Texans GM Nick Caserio, who transitioned from coaching to personnel, McDaniels has strong ties with Stevens, leading to speculations about similar shifts being discussed.”
This potential move was contingent on the possibility of Bill Belichick being hired by Atlanta. However, as the Falcons determined Coach Morris was the ideal long-term fit, they opted not to pursue McDaniels further.
Since his firing by the Raiders in October 2023, McDaniels has not secured another NFL position, though he remains interested in returning to the league. Despite this, he has yet to find the right opportunity.
