After a spate of injuries on Tuesday, the New York Giants decided to end their minicamp early on June 12. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the Giants concluded their final practice of the spring with a light workout and will host a team BBQ on Thursday before breaking until training camp in late July.
As minicamp wrapped up, the Giants concluded their open tryouts for the 90-man roster, which included five hopefuls vying to fill the void left by former tight end Darren Waller. Veteran defensive back Tre Herndon emerged victorious from the tryout and secured a contract, according to his agents and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Herndon, who had previously spent his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, was the standout performer during minicamp. Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com highlighted a key play where Herndon returned a deflected pass for a touchdown, solidifying his case for a roster spot.
Known for his versatility, Herndon has experience playing multiple positions in the secondary and has started 34 of his 83 regular-season games. While his metrics are mixed, his ability to adapt to various roles makes him a valuable addition to the Giants’ defense.
