Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Kedon Slovis has taken a significant step in his football career, signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pellisero.
Slovis entered college as a highly touted five-star recruit, initially making his mark at USC. His freshman year was stellar, with a 71.9% completion rate for 3,502 yards, 30 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, benefiting from a talented receiving corps that included future NFL players Amon-Ra St. Brown, Drake London, and Michael Pittman Jr. However, his performance declined in subsequent seasons with the Trojans. In his sophomore year, he managed a 67.2% completion rate for 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions over six games, but his junior year saw a further drop, affected by neck and lower leg injuries. He completed 65.0% of his passes for 2,153 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions across nine games before Jaxson Dart replaced him as the starter, prompting Slovis to transfer.
At Pitt, Slovis showed potential early on, but a concussion in Week 2 against Tennessee hindered his performance throughout 2022. He finished the season with a 58.4% completion rate, throwing for 2,397 yards, 10 touchdowns, and nine interceptions over 11 games, resulting in a 7-4 record. Notable struggles included poor performances against Louisville and North Carolina, and difficulties with pocket mobility impacted the team’s overall offensive effectiveness. After the season, Slovis transferred, avoiding competition with Boston College transfer Phil Jurkovec for the starting role, amid criticism from former players about his commitment.
Slovis moved to BYU for his final college season, where he played eight games, completing 57.5% of his passes for 1,716 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions, missing the last four games due to injury. His time at BYU yielded five wins but also three losses in Big 12 away games.
Throughout his college career, Slovis’s completion percentage and quarterback rating consistently declined, concluding with a collegiate record of 64.5% completions for 11,689 yards, 80 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions.
