According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Carolina Panthers are anticipated to hold a workout session with Hakeem Butler, a wide receiver from the UFL.
Butler, who previously played for the St. Louis Battlehawks, led the league in receiving yards with 652. Initially drafted in the fourth round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019, he caught the attention of Brahmas head coach Wade Phillips during the XFL Conference title game against the San Antonio Brahmas. Phillips encouraged NFL contacts to consider Butler, as reported by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
Despite St. Louis’ defeat, Butler managed six receptions for a team-best 59 receiving yards. His exceptional performance earned him the title of the 2024 UFL Offensive Player of the Year, being one of only two wide receivers to achieve multiple games with over 100 receiving yards.
While the Panthers added Diontae Johnson and rookie Xavier Legette during the offseason, they are still exploring additional depth, potentially through players like Butler. Carolina has shown interest in former UFL talents, as Rapoport noted the team’s intention to sign Daewood Davis, an All-UFL receiver.
Although Butler was drafted by the Cardinals in 2019, injuries and limited opportunities hindered his NFL appearances. Standing tall at 6’5″, his physical stature presents an opportunity to impress during training camp and secure a spot on Carolina’s roster. A successful workout with the Panthers could reignite Butler’s NFL aspirations.
