Auburn Tigers Surge to Top-10 in Recruiting Rankings with Commitment from 4-Star CB Donovan Starr
The Auburn Tigers have catapulted into the top 10 of the 247Sports team recruiting rankings, following the commitment of 4-star cornerback Donovan Starr from Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee. Starr’s pledge has elevated Auburn to the No. 9 spot nationally, reinforcing the program’s impressive recruiting efforts for the Class of 2025.
“You want to ultimately go where people want you and where you’re a priority, so that sticks out to me a lot about Auburn,” Starr told Caleb Jones of Rivals.
According to 247Sports, Starr ranks as the No. 27 cornerback prospect in the country. He chose Auburn over a host of top-tier programs, including Michigan, Clemson, Florida, and Tennessee. Starr’s commitment marks Auburn’s 12th pledge for the Class of 2025 and their eighth 4-star or better prospect.
The Tigers’ recruiting strategy this cycle has a notable focus on strengthening their defense. Of their top eight commitments, six are defensive players. This includes 5-star defensive lineman Malik Autry from nearby Opelika, Alabama, who is expected to be a cornerstone of Auburn’s future defensive line.
Starr’s commitment is a significant boost to Auburn’s defensive backfield. Standing at 5’11.5″ and weighing 175 pounds, Starr brings exceptional speed, with a 100-meter track time of 10.56 seconds. He joins fellow cornerbacks Devin Williams of Buford, Georgia, and Dante Core of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, as part of Auburn’s 2025 class. Auburn is clearly prioritizing a robust defensive backfield to compete in the fiercely competitive SEC.
Recruiting commitments can be volatile, but Starr expressed his firm commitment to Auburn. He had previously scheduled visits to other schools, including Tennessee, but indicated those are now unlikely.
“Probably not,” Starr told On3’s Jeffrey Lee regarding further visits. “I probably won’t take any more visits. I’m locked in.”
Donovan Starr Junior Highlights
In additional recruiting news, Auburn is set to host 2026 4-star quarterback Helaman Casuga this weekend. Casuga, who is making the trip from Utah, is expected to visit both Auburn and Alabama, adding further intrigue to Auburn’s already dynamic recruiting efforts.
As Auburn continues to build its 2025 class, the commitment of Donovan Starr stands out as a crucial addition, signaling the Tigers’ intent to reload and strengthen their defense for the coming seasons. The coaching staff’s ability to secure top talent like Starr and Autry demonstrates Auburn’s determination to rise in the national rankings and compete at the highest levels of college football.
