Just In: Texas Top WR Target Jaime Ffrench Sets Date for Commitment Announcement

June 7, 2024

The eyes of Texas and beyond are fixed on Jaime Ffrench, the highly coveted five-star wide receiver from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL. Ffrench, one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2025 class, is not only a top priority for the Texas Longhorns but also a pivotal piece in their quest to secure two other elite wideouts, Dakorien Moore and Kaliq Lockett.

In a revelation that has Texas fans buzzing, Ffrench disclosed to On3’s Chad Simmons that he will announce his college commitment on August 30. His decision will be made from a shortlist of five powerhouse programs: Texas, LSU, Miami, Tennessee, and Ohio State.

However, the road to securing Ffrench has become more competitive. Just days after declaring Texas as his leader, Ffrench shared new insights following a transformative visit to LSU. “I don’t have a leader,” Ffrench told Simmons. “LSU changed it, they made it competitive. But those one-two-three schools, everybody is in right now. It’s very back open right now.”

This shake-up has redefined the landscape of Ffrench’s recruitment, making his commitment even more crucial for the Longhorns. Ranked as the No. 23 player nationally, the No. 5 wide receiver, and the No. 4 player in Florida according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Ffrench’s decision is expected to have significant implications for Texas’s recruiting momentum.

Ffrench’s junior year at Mandarin was nothing short of spectacular. He posted 62 receptions for 1,247 yards, averaging a staggering 20.1 yards per catch, and scored 14 touchdowns. His sophomore season was equally impressive, with 44 catches for 671 yards and five touchdowns.

Despite the recent twist in his recruitment, Texas still has a strong opportunity to impress Ffrench once more. He is set to visit Austin from June 21-23, joining other top recruits, including the crown jewel of the Longhorns’ 2025 class, quarterback KJ Lacey. This visit could be pivotal in Texas’s pursuit to regain the edge in landing Ffrench.

As the countdown to August 30 continues, the anticipation around Ffrench’s decision grows. For Texas, securing Ffrench would not only be a major win on its own but could also enhance their chances of building a star-studded receiving corps with Moore and Lockett. The upcoming visit and subsequent decision will be critical in determining whether Texas can turn the tide back in their favor and shape the future of their program.
